shanghai to japan

On a visit to china we decided to continue to japan,boat from shanghai,we took all our chinese money as it was soposed to be a chinese company but no , we were stuck with only local money and this could not be used on board, no drinks or food could we use.
we met a group of english students that would be going back to china on the way home so we did a deal.
we arrived in osaka with no japanese yen the customs took so long to clear passengers that by the time we were cleared all taxi had gone .
so off went my daughter leaving me with the luggage to find a cash point machine and dockland is ships and a long walk in the midday sun no joke.
lucky for us one of the passengers was met by a friend and we were offered a lift to the nearest jr station.
we travelled many miles with our pass and saved a lot of money,the traines are so clean and run on time and stop at the exact spot on the platform to where you enter.

we arrived in osaka on the rd july and back on the th august
i am going back on july /aug two weeks travelling and two weeks staying with a local family in tokushima for the festivals.
i would like to know if anyone knows how I can join the post office,in japan it was suggested in one of the travel books, it makes life easier when trying to find an a.t.m. machine.
