US Wall with Mexico
US President George W Bush has signed a controversial bill into law that will pay for a 700-mile fence (1,125km) fence along the border with Mexico.
The barrier, equipped with hi-tech surveillance equipment, will be built in areas where many illegal immigrants cross over into the United States. The outgoing Mexican President, Vicente Fox, has called the fence shameful, and compared it to the Berlin Wall.

There is a basic difference between the Berlin Wall and the fence to be erected along the Mexico/United States border. The Berlin Wall to keep the Easy German citizens IN - to prohibit them from travel where ever they wanted. If Mexican and other nationalities wish to enter legally they are very welcome.
The US/Mexican fence is to keep illegals from other countries OUT. Vincente Fox is exporting all the social problems of Mexico. Our schools and hospitals are swamped with people that have entered illegally and now we find that one out of ten has a Mexican criminal background so our jails too are being crowded.

I think the wall is rediculous. Our country is supposed to promote peace and equality, and this wall only says “stay out” to citizens of other countries. Too much money is being spent on building and repairing the wall, so why not use the money for something more useful. Becoming a citizen is a long, drawn out, and expensive process that some people don’t want to wait for or don’t have the money for. Use the money being spent on this wastefull wall to help out these people who want to be in our countries; provide loans or something. Meanwhile, recycle the wall!
